Cocktail in a different Glass ;)

So, I happened to watch Cocktail after a long wait. When the film released, was at home so couldn't get time. And by the time, I came back to the city of Golden temple, almost all my friends had seen the film. So, no plan could be made.
This is not being written to discuss the music or the flaws of the film. To be honest, I was expecting something else. I get into a dilemma when I see this kind of material.
The film revolves around a casanova ( Saif Ali Khan ) and two hot girls - Meera (Diana) and Veronica (Deepika). The urban, larger than life movie is set in London. They have jobs which many don't even know about. What i mean is what you gotta do in that - Glamour photography, Graphic art and Software design ! which by the way is visible in only one or two scenes in the film.
The characters of the film danced, drank and had the most fashionable wardrobe you can think of. Yet ! in the end, the guy chooses the " Sati Savaitri " girl Meera. Now, I am not against the fact that why he choose her and not the other chick or even for the fact that loving a simple girl instead of a hot one is weird.
But the basic eye drop depicted in the film is way different. It actually awakens us for the fact that no matter how much we change or even have past a decade but still we are reluctant towards many things that happen in our society. The actual fact is that, still  in the end we need a girl who can cook Dal- roti , can iron our clothes, dresses conservatively, in short the one you would want your mom to meet.
So, the question is what type of India we are living in and our presenting to the kids, our youth ?
On one part, we ape the western society and their culture. But on the very next hand we want our culture to remain intact and behave traditional ?
I believe celebrating Independence day is of no use till the time we actually free our brain from these "Barriyan " . Being a girl, i'd like our men to have a wide open mind before choosing their life partners or even  classifying girls. Now you would be knowing of what am talking about ! Indian men or i should say even girls are programmed to think that way.
Short Skirts - Tops, Carefree attitude = Girlfriend Material.
Suits, dressing conservatively, No EX = Wife Material.
Isn't it ? You know it is. Accept it ! Until the time we don't we can never improve on he fact and the problem.
Having a traditional girl, who cooks, washes dishes must be nice but choosing an independent, working , is maybe better. Who knows ? Just labeling them as Girl friend is an insult !
Now, clarifying here, am not saying everyone thinks or acts that way but yes most of us DO.
My mother is a working women. Maybe your's is too. I wear good modern dresses and am sure you love flaunting them too !
So, does that entitle us to being just Girlfriend materials ? Or we would have to do some specific cookery course and learn other house hold chores before asking our boyfriend's to plan a meeting with their mum's ?
Think about it !
We are living in a world that is changing so rapidly that it hardly leaves any time to think where are we heading to. The cinema we see is a depiction of our society and of how would we act. Because after all we are the ones who accept such cinema.
On one hand we see guys chasing girls who are HOT ( the description is something of how would I describe Veronica or already have ) and then on the back, call those type of girls " Tezz " !
Don't just tolerate but celebrate the very existence of successful, independent women in our society. After all, this is what we all want to see. Equality ! Right ? We can live on lesser hot roti's but not in a nation which is paralysed in the way it thinks.
We just need the same Cocktail but in a different Glass ;)
And yes, a Belated Happy Independence Day !

  2. U can surely win the world with words, but cannot change the world with your words. It takes a lot of toil and effort to Do something than preaching the same thing.
